The Mt. Lebanon Teen Center has been a part of our community for over 27 years. We have been successful thanks to the district, municipality, and the community of parent volunteers.
Our September 2015 event had 275 enthusiastic, well behaved middle school students. However, due to lack of chaperones we had to consolidate the event to just the cafeteria and hallway. The PA state mandated clearances have made it impossible to get enough volunteer coverage for our events. With that being said, this letter is to inform you that Teen Center, without our parent volunteers, must close effective immediately. We cannot continue to have events with so many interested students and only a dance floor for entertainment. We require a minimum number of volunteers in order for the event to be as safe as it is designed and to function, and with the new laws and insurance limitations it seems as though that will not be a reality.
The Teen Center legacy has been a wonderful part of Mt. Lebanon and for that we are proud. We are grateful for the many memories students have from Teen Center that continue to be mentioned in seniors’ graduation speeches and for the numerous parent volunteers that have dedicated countless hours of their time over the years. We appreciate the school district allowing us to use their facilities and the municipality helping with funding.
